Young Palm (2012)

This isn’t an alien invader, but a young palm tree that had recently been planted in front of a suburban strip mall. Immature fronds grow upward from the tree’s core. As the leaves mature, grow, and fan out in a circle, the core becomed a segment of the tree’s outer bark. A new core then repeats the cycle. Late afternoon light enhances the color, texture, and weirdness.
