York Wall Turret (1972)

York is one of two cities in England renowned for their Roman walls. Beginning in 71 CE, when the Romans established Eboracum as a fortified military camp, successive rulers (Saxon, Viking, English) have added to the walls to meet evolving defensive needs. This turret was one of those additions. No longer needed for defense, the wall is now a popular walkway for tourists.
