Un Matin de Printemps à Vauvenargues (2000)

This is perhaps my favorite picture from Provence. Under the “sweet” light that drew so many artists to Provence, this scene shows no sign of the 20th century. Had an 18th or 19th century French landscape artist done this as an oil painting he might well have given the canvas the above title, which means A Spring Morning in Vauvenargues.

Vauvenargues is a little village just outside Aix-en-Provence. This view, from what passes for the “main street” in town, overlooks the Château de Vauvenargues. Pablo Picasso is buried on its grounds.

A special “wallpaper” version of this picture is available for free download in 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768 sizes.
