Mustardy Hill (2019)

The Palos Verdes Peninsula may have been covered with trees in the 19th century, when it was a Mexican land grant named Rancho de los Palos Verdes (“Rancho of the green trees”). But in spring, especially after a wet winter, the Peninsula’s hills are covered with the yellow flowers of black mustard (Brassica nigra), a species native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
