Making the Mandala #6 (2012)

A visiting monk from the Drepung Loseling Phukhang Monastery applies colored sand to to the nearly complete mandala he and five of his colleagues built in December 2012 at Pacific Unitarian Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. He’s using a chakpur, a funnel that holds the sand. Rasping the metal rod over the ridges on the outside of the chakpur precisely controls the flow of sand, directing it exactly where it’s needed.
