Self-Portrait in Mind, Body and Spirit (2011)

My distorted reflection in the polished stainless-steel sculpture Mind, Body and Spirit in the plaza outside the Stuart M. Ketchum Downtown YMCA in Downtown Los Angeles.

Gidon Graetz’ large mirrored sculpture rotates on its base, providing constantly changing reflections of its surroundings and its visitors. It also invites use as the subject of “artistic” photography.

I normally try to keep my reflection or shadow out of pictures. But here there was no way to take a close-up of this sculpture without my visible reflection. So I decided to make it an element of the composition.

If you’re incorrigibly curious, a more accurate picture of me is here.
