Beams (2017)

Early morning light and a (virtual) deep red filter makes the wooden beams glow against a dark sky. I brought out the texture of the wood with “tonal contrast” adjustment (local contrast enhancement), and gave the converted black and white image a cool (blue) hue with (virtual) selenium toning. In traditional “analog” photography, selecting different printing papers and toning treatments could make “black and white” prints in a range of tones from warm brown (sepia) to cool blue.
