Balanced Rock at Dusk (1989)
A sunset view of Balanced Rock and Ham Rock, with a gibbous moon.
From this viewpoint (and with a long lens) Ham Rock looks very close to Balanced Rock, but it’s actually over a kilometer away. It was probably named for its resemblance to a canned ham.
The pedestal between Balanced Rock and Ham Rock in this picture once contained a smaller companion to Balanced Rock called “Chip off the Old Block.” It collapsed in 1976.
