Monument and Houseboat (2009)
The monument to Christianity, in the Court of Religions at the entrance to the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades, California. The Court of Religions contains monuments to five major world religions that Self-Realization Fellowship founder Paramahansa Yogananda considered to share a common devotion to God. All five monuments are identical to this one, except for the name and symbol. The monument to Judaism has a Star of David; the one for Islam has a crescent and star. The monument to Buddhism features the Bhavacakra (Wheel of Life); the one to Hinduism offers the sacred syllable Aum in Devanagari script.
The location of this particular marker allows an attractive composition that includes the lake and the double-deck Mississippi-style houseboat in the background.
