Mission with Cactus (2001)
The enclosed cemetery wall and bell tower at La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, California. The cactus shows that the area is semi-desert like most of Southern California. The Franciscans (and their Chumash Indian “neophyte” laborers) built an elaborate irrigation system to support their crops and livestock.
