This view of Eagle Point, the inlet to Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe, shows how Emerald Bay got its name. On a sunny day, the color of Lake Tahoe’s water varies with depth (and also with the weather and the time of day). Shallower water is green, deeper water is sky blue. On an overcast day it’s all gray. The ripples in the foreground are from the paddlewheel of the Tahoe Queen, the riverboat from which I took this picture.
