American Acropolis (2005)

The Great Stone Church at Mission San Juan Capistrano. An earthquake reduced the church to ruins in 1812, a mere six years after the church was consecrated. It’s sometimes called the “American Acropolis” because of the Classically-influenced arches and columns— and also, presumably, because of its ruined state.
